EXPO 2015: LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT FOR EATITALY RESTAURANTS THANKS TO THE DISPOSABLE TABLEWARE IN MATER-BI® DEVELOPED BY CAMI WITH PLASTIC MATERIAL PRODUCED BY I.M.P.A IN CASALE SUL SILE.
2 million meals served in 20 restaurants managed by Eataly at EXPO2015 have been reached and a highly positive sustainability report as a result of choosing disposable tableware in Mater-Bi®, the only one that can be treated with food scraps in composting plants, contributing to the reduction of mixed waste in the landfills and to the control of greenhouse gas emissions.
Novamont’s raw material has been processed – from granule to semi finished roll- from the company IMPA in Casale sul Sile. The company CAMI in Piedmont has then reworked the material and produced dishes and bowls in Mater-Bi®, with mechanical and aesthetic characteristics and heat resistance up to 85°.
The properties of this material allow to adopt the most eco-friendly solutions while providing the highest performances. Mater-Bi® bioplastic is the ideal choice for big events, school catering or the fast food industry, that need to respond to the pressing demand of reducing mixed waste. This raw material processing has been developed over an intensive research combined with 50 years of IMPA’s experience in the sector of plastic material extrusion.
The business partnership between the Italian companies has once again proved to be a winning strategy, even in front of the challenging audience of millions of visitors at the exhibition in Milan.
It is for IMPA a further experience in a well known sector in continuous development, where the research for environmentally friendly solutions is becoming of paramount importance.
The results of the partnership with Novamont prove that it is truly possible to produce a fully compostable and biodegradable material.
Thanks to the successful operation at EXPO2015, Novamont and IMPA decided to carry on the study on this product to respond to the growing demand of compostable disposables.
